When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?

Along with Heritage and Village Perks, a shinobi country is allowed four POI's, or Points of Interest. These are essentially open event areas, barriers between the main land and it's respective Hidden Village. All four of a country's POI's must be taken over in a bid for territory control before its Hidden Village can be attacked an invaded by an enemy nation, and before a Hidden Village's location can be searched for by an enemy nation (stolen maps containing Hidden Village locations are the only way to circumvent this search, though POI's will still have to be taken over to begin an attack/invasion). POI's are essentially geographical obstacles, strongholds where village leaders assert their influence and protect the paths to their home. An enemy force must take over all four of another nations POI's before they've gained enough territory and resources to successfully pull off an attack, but so long as a village loses all four (meaning nations can team up/the same enemy nation does not have to take over all four POI's), they will not be able to defend from attack.
POI's are populated by Defenders, NPC military forces which serve to protect their various strongholds. These NPC's are given out according to a nations active PC shinobi at a ratio of 1:1. A village receives 1 NPC Defender for each shinobi in its village. These NPC's can be designed by either a village's shinobi, or it's Kage, but are always B Rank in terms of techniques and capabilities. They are capable of possessing Kekkei Genkai, techniques, items, and equipment B Rank and under, and are meant to represent an average military sampling of shinobi strength.
Defenders can be assaulted by Attackers, who are just Defenders from an enemy nations own Points of Interest. Though any number of Attackers can be sent to attempt a POI takeover, it should be noted that more/replacement Attackers and Defenders can only be created when new shinobi join a village, so they must be used tactically. One PC Defender/Attacker can be sent to supplement a POI at any given time, though all POI's are Death Enabled, so tread carefully.
For every three months (OOC/real time) that a village maintains control of the majority (3 of 4) of their POI's, it's entire village receives a bonus 250 CP!
Notes: 1. Any number of active shinobi can participate in a takeover (i.e. roleplay as NPC Attackers/Defenders), though Kage retain the right to command NPC's in the event they feel it is necessary. Also, to unlock phase 3 for the village, the current page has to be seated for at least one month OOC. 2. These 'events' will follow a strict 48 hour IIC at all times. 3. Combat rules will still follow the general T1 / Site rules unless otherwise stated by Staff. 4. Invaders (outside attackers) must, in some way, continue to post and occupy the controlled POI within enemy territory. 5. Failure to comply with this rule will result in forfeiting the controlled POI much like relics. (Territory IC: One week without notice) If given notice that something is going one where you can no longer post on time, relinquishing the POI and installing its authority over to a trusted player/character is definitely an alternative. 6. Lastly, these events are only won by either Attackers fully eliminating Defenders and vice versa. If there is still at least one breathing character both sides, that event will not be finished until one man (or entire team) is left standing.
POI's fall into one of four separate categories:
BATTLEGROUND Catering to its roots, the Battleground Type simply increases the shinobi Morale (or any offensive / militant force) which boosts the collective jutsu power (Nin, Gen, and Tai) to the point where all known jutsu act as next level from its base in power, speed, durability etc, depending on the type of course. (Ex: A ranked Defensive Doton is increased to S rank properties)
ECONOMIC The non-combat option and the only option that effects the entire country outside of its base POI area, Economic type based POI's have one sole purpose, to bolster and boost wealth and income of overall Ryo by x1. Note: Creative Freedom as to how the additional revenue is being collected is granted to the controllers of Economic Type POI's. Economic types can be stacked for a grand total of x4 (Ex: 300 Ryo mission reward + x1 Economic POI = 400)
SPIRITUAL Acting to bolster 'chakra' itself in a similar fashion to the Battle Ground type, POI's of this type reduces the chakra cost of half for all ranked Techniques except for E - C.
CUSTOM As a way to add another layer of uniqueness to the site, players can submit custom POI types which will be reviewed and if balanced, approved by staff members.
Paradigm Shifts One of the key aspects of specifically taking over bases / strongholds is shifting their paradigm. If and whenever a base is successfully overrun and seized, the leader (player that orchestrated the capture) has the option to create a paradigm shift. What that means is that If a stronghold is spiritual based, if it's taken over by an enemy, the victor has the option to either keep the previously set paradigm or change it to another (or Custom) type available.
A base / stronghold can go through an infinite number of shifts so long as its fairly being seized. Lastly, it is to be noted that POI's that become freed up due to inactivity return to a 'neutral state' meaning they have no benefit, its free game for anyone to capture.
Sounds awesome? Unfortunately, this system does have it's drawbacks. It is definitely to be noted when an enemy assume's control of any POI within your country (the Kage and the country you as the player represent) those shinobi from said country not only gain access to use YOUR custom POI types (and if they successfully invade/destroy your village, your village perks) but they can also use their own!
