When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?

Genjutsu techniques are the illusion techniques of the ninja world, which like their Ninjutsu counterparts, generally require hand seals to perform. The idea behind Genjutsu is that the ninja will use Yin (In) chakra, or more specifically the Yin Release (Inton) to force others into witnessing phantasms they otherwise would not see. By forming such illusions the user can cause their target mental pain and suffering, which can be just as real as physical torture.[break][break]
Essentially, Genjutsu is created when a ninja extends their Yin chakra through the cerebral nervous system of their opponent to control their minds chakra, thereby affecting their five senses.[break][break]
The user's ability to cast illusions depends on their Genjutsu Skill, a set of passive abilities which determine basic aspects of an Inton technique - like range, or victims affected, for example. The more the user develops these basic skills, the better their Genjutsu casting will be.[break][break]
To combat the effects of Genjutsu, there are three options.[break][break]
The first is for the ninja to stop the flow of chakra in their body, and then apply an even stronger power to disrupt the flow of the caster's chakra - Genjutsu Kai, Hachimontonkou, or in rarer cases Bijuu interference.[break][break]
The second option is to have an outside ninja unaffected by the Genjutsu make body contact, and use their chakra to disrupt the casters flow.[break][break]
And finally, if nothing else, the use of pain being inflicted (any valid sort've pain) is enough to end the technique.[break][break]
Restrictions[break][break]
1. Inton requires the "Yin release," which does take up a user's elemental slots. Only ninjutsu primaries may obtain Inton.[break][break] 2. Inton requires Administrative approval.[break][break] 3. It should be noted that all genjutsu are active until they are disrupted, either by the user via Kai or pain (when applicable), or some outside interruption such as a shinobi altering another's chakra flow. Furthermore, unless stated otherwise, Genjutsu techniques only target a single person.[break][break] 4. This takes a slot.
Mastery's[break][break]
Tier One – Advanced Training, the Art of Assimilation: In most cases, Genjutsu-based techniques fall into two categories: those that affect a single person, or those that affect a large mass of people. However, more crafty Genjutsu users have forged a bridge between the two sects, something of a “middle ground.” Genjutsu practitioners of this aptitude have learned to push the limits of their abilities even further; now, they can increase the number of victims they may entrap using single-target Genjutsu techniques by 2 (for a maximum of three people).[break][break]
Tier Two – Advanced Training, Ebb and Flow: The disruption of the chakra system is also another way to free someone who has been ensnared by a Genjutsu. While somewhat more challenging than causing the victim pain, this is the preferred method of removing illusionary techniques while in a party, and for Jinchuuriki who have mastered their control over the bijuu inside them. However, there are those who have refined their skills to such a profound degree that even this method of removing the illusion becomes tedious. This training ensures that all of the user’s Genjutsu will require an increment of fifty percent of the cost of the original technique to break.[break][break]
Tier Three – Advanced Training, the Path of Pain: In spite of Genjutsu’s power, the illusionary art has several very explicit weaknesses; pain is certainly one of them. However, there are a rare few Genjutsu users who have learned to circumvent this obstacle entirely, by focusing all of their effort and time into mastering their craft. At this level, a user’s illusions are so powerful that not even pain can break them..[break][break]
Kasumi Juusha no Jutsu (Mist Servant Technique)[break] Rank: D[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m)[break] Type: Offensive[break] Handseals: 3[break] Chakra: 2x Low, 1x Low Upkeep[break] This generates five clones. Each time one is destroyed, ten more appear. This technique has a maximum of one hundred clones. Because these clones are an area effect, and not directly effecting a person, this technique can only be canceled by: hitting the user once, or having the user cancel the technique.[break][break]
Tsuchi no Ouchi no Jutsu (Spoil Pit Technique)[break] Rank: C[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 5[break] Chakra Consumption: 2x Mid[break] While this technique trick's the user's mind into believing they are stuck in the ground, this doesn't not mean the rest of their body is paralyzed. Instead, they will simply believe they can't move their legs. This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption.[break][break]
Kori Shinchuu no Jutsu (Sly Mind Affect Technique)[break] Rank: C[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m)[break] Type: Offensive[break] Handseals: 4[break] Chakra: Mid[break] Kori Shinchuu no Jutsu is a simple yet effective Genjutsu technique which allows the user to play a nasty visual truck on their opponents, causing them to travel around an area lost, in circles. If the ninja is unable to detect the illusion very quickly, they can become exhausted mentally and physically when they are unable to reach their desired target by traveling along the same path over and over. Most effective in enclosed areas such as forests or jungle.[break] Note: Because this is a genjutsu used on an area, rather than a person, the only way to break it is by hitting the user once, or having them dispel it.[break][break]
Manugareru (Escape)[break] Rank: B[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)[break] Type: Defensive[break] Handseals: 2[break] Chakra Consumption: High[break] If the user comes under attack, they can use this technique to cover their escape. After forming the needed hand seals, their body will disperse into a "shower" of whatever they have an affinity for. This shower will confuse and distract their opponent while they escapes or hide.[break] Note: Those outside of the immediate range of this technique will still be able to see the caster attempting to escape, and can thusly counter. This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption.[break][break]
Kyousei Yasuragi no Jutsu (Enforced Tranquility Technique)[break] Rank: B[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 8[break] Chakra Consumption: High[break] The user forms the hand seals, designating their target within their range. Immediately, the target will begin to slow, perceiving everything around them as occurring at an incredibly fast speed. In reality, this genjutsu has slowed their perceptions, and in doing so reduced their reflexes and physical abilities to match the new, slower speed of their mind. From the outside, it might appear as though the target is moving through molasses, as their body slows with their mind.[break][break]
Note: This technique can be broken via pain, kai, and chakra disruption. This technique was created by Masakuni.[break][break]
Raikōchū (Flash of Lightning Pillar)[break] Rank: B[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m)[break] Type: Offensive[break] Handseals: 4[break] Chakra Consumption: High[break] Raikouchuu is a Genjutsu technique that generates a large flash of light from behind the caster which blinds the enemy. After performing a string of hand seals, they will generate a large blast of light which hinders their target's eyesight.[break][break]
Note: This technique lasts for two turns (including the post it was used). This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption.[break][break]
Bukishisseki no Jutsu (Weapon Disappearance Technique)[break] Rank: B[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 6[break] Chakra Consumption: High[break] The user forms the hand seals, designating their target within their range. Immediately, the target will perceive their weapon quickly dissolving into nothing. Once the weapon has completely dissolved, which takes roughly three seconds, the user will lose the ability to perceive the weapon in any way, likely dropping it as they can no longer perceive themselves holding it. The user can determine how they want the dissolution to occur; for example, one user might make it appear as though the weapon is coming apart into a cloud of flower petals.[break][break]
Note: This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption. This technique was created by Masakuni.[break][break]
Kuroi Tensa no Jutsu (Black Chains Technique)[break] Rank: A[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 9[break] Chakra Consumption: 2x High[break] The user forms the hand seals, designating their target within their range. Immediately, the target will perceive all four of their limbs being bound to the ground. The user is free to chose how the technique appears; one user might make it appear as though the target is being bound by chains, while another might make it appear as though roots have grown out of the ground and bound the target. The target will feel as though these bonds are unbreakable.[break][break]
Note: This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption. This technique was created by Masakuni. [break][break]
Kokuangyou no Jutsu (Journey into Black Darkness Technique)[break] Rank: A[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 1[break] Chakra Consumption: x2 High to cast, low to sustain[break] This technique exerts an hallucinatory effect upon the eyesight, effectively blinding the opponent. No matter how skilled an opponent may be, they are forced to wait helpless in this world of darkness, as this technique allows the user to attack unseen. Although it negates sight, it does not stop the other senses. [break][break] Note: This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption.[break][break]
Joku no Kamira (Kamira’s Hell)[break] Rank: A[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Offensive[break] Handseals: 6[break] Chakra Consumption: High, Low to sustain[break] Once inside the black space, the target will see grotesque figures said to be tortured criminals, the previous victims of the technique. This grotesqueness will reach out and grab a hold of the target. They will then be thrown into a void (the ground below them) to the mercy of a spectral demon. The horrifying oni can even extend from the targets own body to attack them. The technique aims to transfix the victim with fear while they kill/apprehend the target.[break]
Note: This technique can be broken via pain, kai, or chakra disruption. This technique effects everyone within range, spare for the user.[break][break]
Shinteki Heisa no Jutsu (Mental Shutdown Technique)[break] Rank: A[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 8[break] Chakra Consumption: High to cast, Low to sustain[break] The user forms the hand seals, designating their target within their range. The user then reaches out and touches the target, making physical contact with their skin. Immediately, the target will feel their mind shutting down, as though they are falling into a deep, inevitable sleep. Within three seconds, the target will fall unconscious, and remain in this state until the user removes their hand or the technique is complete.[break][break]
Note: This technique can be broken via chakra disruption. This technique was created by Masakuni.[break][break]
Tomodare (Mutual Destruction)[break] Rank: S[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 7[break] Chakra Consumption: 2x High[break] This genjutsu brings out the victim's subconscious negative or hateful emotions. The caster can take advantage of these feelings and use them to force allies against one another. Those under its hold have several strange marks under their eyes and on their foreheads, signaling they've changed. [break][break] Note: This technique can be broken via chakra disruption.[break][break]
Nehan Shouja no Jutsu (Temple of Nirvana Technique)[break] Rank: S[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Offensive[break] Handseals: 1[break] Chakra Consumption: x3 High[break] One of the most advanced visual Genjutsu techniques, Nehan Shouja no Jutsu is a Genjutsu technique that allows the caster to place a large body of people into a unconscious state. Although anyone can avoid the spell by forming and using the Kai technique, using this while undetected ensures a large success rate, as its unexpected nature is what catches most victims off guard.[break][break]
Note: This technique can be broken via kai, or chakra disruption.[break]
