When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?

Kugutsu, or Puppetry, is a unique ninjutsu fighting style in which the user employs chakra threads in order to provide fine control over puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. Simply put, puppets are mechanical allies; how well you equip that ally usually determines how well it can help you.[break] [break] Though this art owes its origins to the now-deserted Kaze no Kuni, the art of Kugutsu has spread world-wide and has become a favorite among tactical shinobi. However, this style is not for everyone. Still, those who have come to master this deadly art are revered by their peers and feared by their enemies (with good reason).[break][break]
A master puppeteer should not be taken lightly.[break][break]
Restrictions[break][break] 1. Kugutsu is only available to Ninjutsu.[break] 2. Kugutsu takes a Slot[break][break]
Mastery's[break][break]
Tier 1 The Training - A Puppet Master is known for one thing, their ability to control objects via Chakra Thread. The interesting thing is however that very few people are capable of keeping up with a Puppet Master's hand gestures, proving that they are effectively unmatched by most in the usage of high speed movements. This is because of the years of training a Puppet Master's mind has become sharpened by the methods employed, and they are effectively able to process information much more rapidly. This translates into drastically improved mental reaction speed, and connection between the fingers and the brain. The nervous system capable of acting on shear impulse the moment the master's mind wills it to. Increasing the speed of hand eye coordination when using the Puppet as an extension of their will. A Puppet Master obtains 2 levels higher than there own speed Reaction Speed when controlling a puppet (Mental Only) meaning that they are mentally more aware/capable of reacting to the slightest change around them without effort. This does not mean they can physically dodge, as this only reflects to their mental awareness.[break][break]
Tier 2 Understanding - A Puppet Master focus their life on the usage of Chakra Threads and Control. This allows them to understand a simple fact, the more threads used per creation/puppet. The better the control over said creation. This works for puppets, and organics as well and even weapons controlled by the master. For five threads, the user is able to double the speed of what ever they are controlling at the moment. (increases w/e they are controlling with five threads aka one hand to level +3 speed levels higher than there own). This shows the sheer effort of control over the said object, and with all ten threads/both hands. The master can effectively triple the speed of their current control, increasing the speed of anything they are controlling to effectively three times shinobi speed.[break][break]
Tier 3 Mastery - The Pinnacle of Mastery, this shows what a true Puppet Master is. The amount of Puppets they can control per thread, normally. This ties in at around two at most as most do not truly understand the cause behind their technique but now. Through years of training, the master has realized a simple fact. They have ten fingers, and as such ten threads. This offers the user the ability to control up to ten Puppets at once with the SAME level of skill as if they were using one hand. This translate to an increased reaction speed of the controlled Puppet. Allowing split second changes. Puppetry Basics and Specifics[break][break]
----------------[break][break]
Generally, no two puppets are the same. They come in all shapes and sizes, which is why they must always be submitted as a custom. When creating and purchasing a puppet, one can mix and match a variety of things. This includes size, the amount of slots and the material (plating) the puppet comes with. To determine these, use the points below.[break][break]
As with other weapons and jutsu, a puppet's rank serves to represent its base size. Size limits are loose and can shape themselves in any way the user sees fit, as long as the total dimensions don’t exceed the general base given. D: Puppets of this classification are generally small rodents or animals, such as: a mouse, fox, dog, cat, falcons, etc. These puppets can only be made from the weakest and cheapest materials.[break][break]
C-B: Puppets of this classification are much larger than their d-rank counterparts, and are closer in the range of humanoids and larger animals, such as: wolves, eagles, leopards, etc. These puppets require sturdier material to build, and are much more durable than d-rank puppets.[break][break]
A-S: Puppets of this classification are the largest size puppet a master may create. Capable of being double the size of a fully matured adult, they can also fashion large creatures, such as: lions, bears, tigers, sharks (great whites, etc), etc (no whales, elephants, or animals of massive size). These puppets have access to curated materials which are substantially stronger than any other material.[break][break]
A puppet's defensive capability, or durability, is determined by the material it's made of. Because puppets are more so weapons, and thusly subject to breaking no different than a sword, it’s very important to choose the right materials when crafting your puppet.[break][break]
Of course, some materials are only available to certain ranks of puppets. These are:[break] D: Wire and hardened plastic are the cheapest, but weakest, materials a puppeteer may use to make their puppets. These puppets are easily destroyed by any rank of jutsu, and can only sustain a pair [2] of direct hits from traditional weaponry (blades, hammers, etc). These puppets have defense level of 3[break] Cost: 500 ryo.[break][break]
C-B: Wood is the next level of puppet making, and where you begin to see more traditional-esque puppets. While they certainly are not the most durable puppets, they are considerably more reliable than the d-rank class. Only very special wood – as durable as rock and stone – is used to make this class of puppets, allowing them to handle a moderate amount of damage. These puppets can endure a handful of direct assaults [5] from jutsu of c-rank and below, are immune to typical projectiles, and can tolerate up to ten [10] hits from traditional weaponry (blades, hammers, etc.).These puppets have a defense level of 5[break] Cost: 3,500 ryo.[break][break]
A-S: Chemically treated materials are available to this level of puppetry. These specially curated reagents boast impressive steel-like durability, yet are incredibly lightweight and command unprecedented speed and strength (x2 that of your average shinobi). These puppets have a defense level of 7.[break] Cost: 10,000 ryo.[break][break]
As a puppeteer, one is entitled to their first puppet being free, fully loaded with a preset build of attachments that max out a puppet's slot-space amount. Ammunition must be bought separately. These "free" puppets are the lowest rank accessible to the shinobi level (this means a Genin would start with a d-rank puppet for free, not a c-rank). Furthermore, players are not locked into their puppet ranks (this means that a Genin could purchase an s-rank puppet, presuming they have the ryo). The puppets available to a shinobi are determined by their personal rank:[break][break] Genin: D-C[break] Chuunin: B.[break] Jounin: A-S.[break][break]
Puppets possess a Slot System that represents storage for different kinds of attachments in order to further customize the puppet's offensive capabilities. Keep in mind that the amount of slots a piece takes up is the amount it can house of any item. As the puppet's rank rises, so does their holding capabilities.[break][break] D: 15 slots.[break] C: 30 slots.[break] B: 45 slots.[break] A: 60 slots.[break] S: 75 slots.[break][break]
Systems allow a puppeteer to achieve things with their puppet normally impossible, from swimming to crossing hazardous territory. Systems are upgrades vital for having the upper-hand in battle:[break][break] Underwater: Without this system, puppets freeze up and fail to move while underwater due to weight, material and flooding issues.[break][break]
Underground: Without this system, puppets freeze up when sand, dirt or dust clog their joints, making it impossible to move in tough terrain.[break][break]
Quick-Switching: Changing gear on puppets is not an instant thing, as one needs to properly move out parts within the puppet and attach new ones. However, with the quick-switch system, any part adjustments can be done on the fly (provided a spare part is kept close)![break][break]
Storage: Puppets may be either carried visibly, in some sort of holder, or stored in an equally ranked blank scroll - no more than a single puppet per scroll! Notice: Puppets, like anything else that is submitted to breakability, can be repaired by either PC or NPC Craftsman, as long as they are in good enough condition to be salvaged! It should be noted that these guidelines are to be applied with common sense, and not on face value.[break][break]
If a player has a d-rank technique that drops a mountain on their enemy, and they use it on your s-rank puppet, your puppet is going to be completely destroyed. However, if they have a d-rank water bullet, your s-rank puppet will simply shrug it off.[break][break] Notice: Puppets, like anything else that is submitted to breakability, can be repaired by either PC or NPC Craftsman, as long as they are in good enough condition to be salvaged!
