When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?

The Hoshigaki originate from Mizu no Kuni, originally very few of them were ever ninja and they mass produced, like animals, and the first generations maintained much more fish-like appearances and barely had any humanoid features other than their figure, which caused a lack of society and a more primitive lifestyle. Those who became ninja donned more human-like features but were still a stretch away from our current Hoshigaki. Within Kirigakure the government Science department saw potential and acted upon it, they captured two Hoshigaki and forced them to breed with humans. Attempting to create the perfect hybrid. After a large amount of mutations from inbreeding and crossbreeding they eventually found the current type of Hoshigaki, which are more often described as humans with fish features rather than the other way around. These new Hoshigaki were much more sociable and capable of living like normal humans. But with a conscious comes morality.[break][break]
Hoshigaki always lacked morality, the breeding had not changed that, so after laying dormant for a few years, going through the ranks and training, the two Hoshigaki, Go & Ichi, eventually acted upon a plan they had crafted, called "The Rule of Two". They were going to kill every other Hoshigaki so that they were the only two left, and there must be two at all times, to ensure only the strongest survive. So they did just that. The two Jounin headed to a cove in Mizu no Kuni rampant with Hoshigaki that were still primitive and slaughtered them all. They demanded the Government Science section hand over the failed Hoshigaki to be killed. The scientists refused. So they were killed too. Eventually after years of being hunted, the only two Hoshigaki left were Go & Ichi. They were wanted by every nation due to the laws they broke so they went into hiding. Now, generations later, the rule of two is still upheld, only two Hoshigaki can exist at once. However due to the fact Go & Ichi had mutations within them, they weren't vulnerable to air, or electricity, like a normal Hoshigaki, therefore the current descendants aren't affected as harshly either.[break][break]
Restrictions:[break][break] Hoshigaki must be Taijutsu Primaries[break][break]
2. Due to Hoshigaki's natural link to the sea, they're not restricted if they're a Taijutsu Primary and may cast up to S-Rank Summons and S-Rank Suiton Jutsu. Suiton Must Be Your Selected Tree![break][break]
3. Hoshigaki are restricted to fully aquatic summoning families, that cannot survive on land.[break][break]
Trait breaker - +1 defense +2 strength
Mastery[break][break]
Tier One - In Your Element: At heart, Hoshigaki were always fish and belong in the sea, so when they're where they belong, encased in water, they revert back to their normal selves, which is a physical peak, they get a +1 boost to ALL stats whilst underwater. This is because naturally Hoshigaki are actually superior to humans, but because they're restrained by the overland they're often equal to humans. [break][break]
Tier Two - Fish Outta Water After being exposed to air and the human climate so often, the Hoshigaki have finally gotten used it, but not how you would assume. Instead of adapting to land, instead they simulate what it's like to be underwater. The Hoshigaki can emulate the +1 to all stats from the first mastery, "In Your Element", for x1 Mid per post it is active. The drawback to this is the user can only maintain this for a maximum of 5 posts, to use it again the user must have a cooldown period equal to how long they used it, so if they used it for 3 posts, they'd have to wait 3 posts. [break][break]
Tier Three - Family Reunion Hoshigaki have always kept in touch with their deep sea roots, however masters of Hoshigaki are more in touch moreso than others. By expending x2 High the Hoshigaki can launch a 5ft long, 150lb Shark that is capable of hovering and moving through the air as if it was a creature of the sky, at most a Hoshigaki can maintain 3 of these sharks and they must always stay within 20 ft of the Hoshigaki who summoned them. This requires no handseals and the sharks can emerge from any part of the body. However it does cost x1 Mid to maintain per shark. The sharks can only last a maximum of 6 consecutive posts before they disappear in a puff of smoke, to reuse the user must have gone through a cooldown period, for every 2 posts the sharks were active, the user needs to wait 1 post.[break][break]
Suichuu Binkatsu (Underwater Alacrity)[break] Rank: D[break] Range: -[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 2[break] Chakra Consumption: x1 High[break] The Hoshigaki Clan are very much used to fighting underwater, and in fact feel at home in it. This is why their whole fighting style is based upon flooding the field and then forcing the opponent to fight underwater, where the user will have the advantage. Because of their constant fighting underwater, they've learned how to move and manipulate their own bodies while submerged, making them terribly difficult opponents to match when they're in their element. This ability, once learned, allows the user to fight with grace and ease underwater, to the very point that it seems like they were fighting naturally above it. [break][break] Note: This increases the user's speed +1 when underwater.[break][break] Denshi Juyou (Electroreceptor)[break] Rank: D[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 1[break] Chakra Consumption: Low, Low to sustain[break] While sharks are known for their ability to locate injured prey by smelling blood, it is not the only tracking sense available to them. Small nodes scattered under the facial skin of the Hoshigaki, when supplied with chakra, are capable of sensing bioelectrical signals sent out by all living beings. This ability is particularly helpful in murky water and at night. Because the earth has a magnetic field, the Hoshigaki are able to sense this and determine what direction to swim in while under water, just like their shark counterparts.[break][break]
Note: Can only be used in a body of water, and can only sense the electrical fields of animals in that water up to a distance of 25 meters. Larger animals will have larger bioelectric fields, but otherwise there is no way to tell what is causing the field without seeing it. When used for directional purposes, the Hoshigaki is able to discern what direction is north and plan accordingly.[break][break]
Chi Kaori (Blood Scent)[break] Rank: C[break] Range: Close (0m ~ 5m), Mid (5m ~ 10m), Far (10m+)[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 3[break] Chakra Consumption: Mid, Low to sustain[break] After injuring an opponent, the Hoshigaki will generally try to force an underwater fight by flooding the field or trapping someone with some other water-based techniques. By doing this, the user is capable of using their sense of smell to track the scent of the blood of the opponent, making it much more difficult to hide from them.[break][break]
Note: Though this technique is based in water, it can be used without it present. Within water, Blood Scent has a 100m diameter. Outside, the range is reduced to a diameter of 50m.[break][break]
Nankotsu-sei No (Cartilaginous)[break] Rank: B[break] Range: -[break] Type: Defensive[break] Handseals: 2[break] Chakra Consumption: x1 High to activate, x2 Mid to sustain[break] The Hoshigaki clan is known for possessing the traits of sharks, including a skeleton made of cartilage. Cartilage is both flexible and durable, and is capable of absorbing force better than bone. Sharks also have special scales called dermal denticles that act like an outer skeleton, making the skin rough to the touch and solid.[break]
By funneling a small amount of chakra into their skeleton and skin, the durability of both is greatly increased. The double layer of protection allows them to withstand large amounts of force from physical attacks, and has the added advantage of being so rough as to cut any flesh that comes in contact with it while in this super-durable state. A fist that makes contact with the Hoshigaki's skin would come away with small cuts across the knuckles, and so on.[break]
Note: While active, Nankotsu-sei No reduces the damage from physical attacks by half. This does not include any slash or pierce attacks, like with a sword or spear, only punches, kicks, etc. Direct flesh-to-flesh contact with the Hoshigaki's skin will also cause minor cuts at this time. +2 defense does not stack with any bonuses[break][break] Same Kyouran (Shark Frenzy)[break] Rank: S[break] Range: -[break] Type: Supplementary[break] Handseals: 6[break] Chakra Consumption: 2x High to cast, Low to sustain (after first stage of frenzy is achieved), [break] Nothing is quite as frightening as a shark who has entered a frenzy. When the shark becomes enraged or maddened, it enters a state of mind that effectively forces the creature to become nerve-dead. During this time, they cannot feel any pain, and are capable of fighting with the intense need for survival. This survival mechanism allows the clan member to fight with a truly unprecedented sense of ferocity. After the frenzy, the user will become exhausted, reducing his or her ability to fight dramatically.[break][break]
Note: Initiating this technique allows the user to enter a sort of 'berserk' status each time they land a strike (drawing blood) on their victim(s). These self-induced frenzy dramatically increases their strength, speed, agility, and endurance by +1 every four strikes for a maximum of +4. Each increase slowly begins to deteriorate the user’s cognitive process, so that on the final strike (the one giving +4) the user can no longer distinguish friend from foe. This technique cannot be deactivated once cast. While in the completed frenzy state, the use of any form of ninjutsu or fuuinjutsu are prohibited. Furthermore, while in this frenzied state, the user’s pain receptors have been augmented to a profound degree; the user will feel no pain, no matter the severity (torn off limb; eviscerated, etc).
This strength buff can only be stacked with Same no Rykoku.[break][break]
Same no Ryoku (Strength of the Shark)[break] Rank: S[break] Range: -[break] Type: Passive Handseals: -[break] Chakra Consumption: -[break] Yet another fierce factor regarding sharks is their monstrous strength, represented in this passive ability that greatly increases the clan member's brute strength. With the shark DNA sprouting within, the clan member's muscles have become greatly enhanced and are capable of performing much greater actions of lifting and overpowering the opponent. +2 Strength permanently![break][break]
Note: This technique does not stack with other strength increases, such as the Eight Celestial Gates.[break][break]
