Slots: This is a unique family, and therefore will only contract with a total of five different people at any given time. However, they refuse to deal with non-ninja or shinobi who are below Jounin rank. Moreover, Taijutsu Primary characters do not possess the chakra molding abilities to summon these massive birds. 1. Origin:The Gousha no Chourui do not actually reside within this plane of existence, but an ethereal plane inaccessible to normal humans. However, their Summoning Totem can be found hidden in a cavern on top of a mountain somewhere in Hi no Kuni. This location is a well-kept secret, so the only way to find it is to ask the assistance of a current Summoner. The Totem takes the form of a large stone bird in the likeness of Fenghuang, eyes set with rubies. Their realm is called Eien no Yama (Eternal Mountain), and its landscape reflects its name perfectly. The totem would transport the summoner to the base of a gigantic mountain, the top of which cannot be seen because it disappears into the ethereal clouds. The climb to the top is hazardous and confusing, as the side of the mountain has holes carved into it — homes for the various birds that live in this plane but do not wish to be called forth into the moral one. They will not hesitate to test a new arrival and, should the person fail, eat them. Reaching the top of the mountain is an achievement in itself, proof that the potential contractor has enough ability to overcome even the most insurmountable odds. They will be granted audience with Fenghuang, who is the queen of this land. If the person who has come into this realm already possesses a contract with the Gousha no Chourui, they will find themselves equipped with wings that can easily transport them to the very top! History:According to ancient mythology, there was a creature called the Fenghuang that reigned over all other birds. It was said to symbolize the six celestial bodies: the head was the sky, the eyes were the sun, the back was the moon, the wings were the wind, the feet were the earth, and the tail was the planets. Such a creature was thought to be fictional—a representation of a higher being in avian form—until the sightings began. It started many years ago, long before the Great War, that a giant bird-like beast was spotted in the air over Hi no Kuni by a young man named Ueshima Eijiro. Though he heard the stories as a child, he did not connect the dots this day; instead, he was interested to see what creature could possibly be so large, so majestic. He followed the shadow of the bird through the trees, chasing after it as quickly as he dared, knowing that it could easily swoop down and carry him off like a hawk with a rabbit. Eventually, they came to a secluded area near the center of the country, where in stood a rock tall enough to be considered a mountain. The bird landed at the very top and disappeared into a cavern. By this time Eijiro was infatuated with the beast: it was so beautiful, even from a distance, that he felt compelled by a strange force to view it closer. Yes, he was terrified, but that meant little to him. It took many grueling hours of climbing for him to reach the spot where the bird disappeared. "Ueshima Eijiro ..." a female voice beckoned, sounding cautiously amused, as if a mother were watching her child do something ridiculous but funny. He approached her, so awed that his mouth was dry and he could not find the energy to be surprised. "Ueshima Eijiro," she repeated, her large wings extending and tucking back against her side, as if to get more comfortable. "I am the great Fenghuang, ruler of the birds." Ruby eyes narrowed down at him as her beak snapped shut, sending a piercing click through the cavern. He seemed to come back to his senses then and swept into a bow, gaze never leaving her own. For a moment, it seemed as Fenghuang might attack him; there was a murderous gleam in her eyes that bespoke of ill will. But then she dipped her head in a semblance of a return bow and remained that way, inviting him closer. He approached, closing the distance with a hand that stroked the soft, cream-colored feathers of her cranium. "You are magnificent!" he breathed, still reeling from the situation he found himself in, still unable to string together a truly intelligent sentence. "Yes," she snapped, lifting her head back to an erect position, far out of his reach. "I may be beautiful, but I am in need of assistance. I have chosen you. You are a shinobi, are you not?" she inquired, pausing long enough for him to shake his head yes. "Indeed. Then you shall sign my contract—sign my contract in your blood, binding us together." The request was sudden, and it made very little sense to him, but Ueshima Eijiro did sign the contract. With a kunai he tore the flesh of his index finger and drew his name on a piece of paper that appeared magically before him. It rolled up and disappeared, sealing his fate. It would not take him very long to find out why, exactly, Fenghuang required a summoner. Though she ruled over the greatest of the birds, they found her methods imperial and boring. They liked adventure, combat, unique experiences, things she could not alone provide to these beasts. It was Eijiro that managed to soothe their woes, calling them forth in battle for Konohagakure no Sato. He never lost a fight again, and grew to know the Gousha no Chourui very well. All could talk, all had their own very distinct personalities, almost like an eclectic human family. Over time they had mastered their own brand of fighting so well that they could work independently, each perfect for a unique situation. Unfortunately, they knew that Eijiro's lifespan was not as great as their own and he realized this as well. He chose his son to be his successor based on the boy's talent as a shinobi and tasked him to do the same when his time came. Eijiro would always be their first; he may have grown old and died, but the pattern he established continued through time. Racial Breaker — Regal Plumage Description: Over the centuries, bird feathers have evolved to serve a function of survivability to the fortunate creatures that sport them. This is true to an even stronger extent in the Gousha no Chourui, who have evolved a step farther than their natural brethren. Powder down feathers are mixed in with their natural plumage, giving them protection against water (blocking Suiton jutsu up to 'A' rank); it simply slides right off. Similarly, their massive body heat is trapped beneath their feathers, insulating them from frigid temperatures and ice (blocking and melting Hyouton jutsu up to 'B' rank) Juniors Name: Karasu no Gikai. Classification: Junior. Rank: D. Chakra Consumption: Low per bird. Statistics: Offense (0). Defense (0). Speed (3); High x2. Description: Not actually a singular summon, this contract calls forth multiple ravens for the appropriate cost. Ravens are considered one of the most intelligent birds, which is why they are used as both spies and message carriers. Each one has their own personality, some calm and some annoying. However, for the right cost — they particularly enjoy shiny baubles — they will work hard to complete even the most dangerous mission. If the summoner does not have the appropriate present, they will not follow orders. Each bird is of a normal size for their species: 56 to 78 cm in length with a wingspan of 100 to 150 cm. These regal avians have no equipment. Fukuwajutsu (Ventriloquism) Type: Supplementary Cost: Mid Description: Even though birds tend to be a natural part of the scenery, when spying is the intent sometimes it becomes necessary to distract the target. With this technique, a raven (or multiple ravens, for additional cost) can call out, but the sound will not come from their actual location. Instead, the noise will be thrown in the exact opposite direction they are in up to 20 meters away, confusing the target. HATESHIPS Name: Kyokusen. Classification: Senior. Rank: B. Chakra Consumption: High. Statistics: Offense (3). Defense (1). Speed (5); Massive. Description: If any member of the family is based purely on an intimidating appearance, it is Kyokusen, who sports one of the most recognizable specie: Peregrine Falcon. A beneficial adaptation in her species is the notch on her beak, near the tip, which enables her to kill prey by severing the spinal column at the neck. At twelve meters in length, with a wingspan of thirteen and a half meters, this could definitely be dangerous to humans as well. However, it is not her offensive capabilities that make her stand out, but her speed. Flight Harness Rank: B Limit: - Description: It would be suicidal to ride Kyokusen without some way to strap yourself on during high-speed maneuvers; that's why the flight harness was crafted. The leather saddle is secured to her body around her wings and under her belly so as not to interfere with movement. It is large enough to comfortably seat up to three grown adults, and they will remain on so long as they utilize the built-in harnesses. However, riding this giant avian still requires a high amount of training and skill. Jinsoku Hikou (Swift Flight) Type: Supplementary. Cost: - Description: Peregrine Falcons are known to be the swiftest flyers, but Kyokusen is the best among them. Her streamlined body allows for top-speed movement and aerial maneuvers, both for travel and in battle. Normally she can reach speeds of up to 100 mph, but when she dives she can reach speeds up to 200 mph. Unfortunately, her light bones and particular bone structure come with a great cost: her durability is low, and almost any damage could prove disastrous. Name: Sensui-kan. Classification: Senior. Rank: A. Chakra Consumption: High x2. Statistics: Offense (3). Defense (2). Speed (4); Massive. Description: At nine meters long, with an eleven meter wingspan, Sensui-kan is perhaps the largest black-throat loon documented in history. He is sleek but not particularly aerodynamic—no, this avian's body is built to soar through the water like air, stalking his favorite prey: fish. Sensui-kan should not be underestimated however, as he is still capable of flight like his brethren. While his feet are webbed and not situated for harming a target, his beak is dagger-shaped, sharp and potentially deadly all on its own. It is said that over time he has learned not only to thrive in water, but to control it. This regal avian has no equipment. Fushizen Era (Unnatural Gills) Type: Supplementary. Cost: - Description: Black-throated loons are quite at home in the water, perhaps even more so than in the air. Sensui-kan's chakra automatically filters oxygen from the water he inhales, allowing him to breathe under water. He can remain under for up to 10 turns, but then he will need to return to the surface for at least 1 turn to supplement the levels of oxygen he took in. Reiteki Tori (Spiritual Birds) Type: Suiton / Offensive Cost: High per bird Description: By focusing his chakra, Sensui-kan can call forth birds made of water to assault his opponent. These birds are looking to kill and will not hesitate to stab with their beaks or maim with their talons. Each one is 2 meters long and can move up to 50 meters away from him. However, they require a large water source (such as a lake) to be made and must remain within it, or they will return to their natural state. Name: Akushitsuna. Classification: Senior. Rank: A. Chakra Consumption: High x2. Statistics: Offense (5). Defense (2). Speed (5); Massive x2. Description: Akushitsuna is not quite your average bird; he is, in fact, a cassowary. He's just a bit taller than the average human at 2 meters tall, with most of that height made up by long, heavily muscled legs. While is body is round and his wings are tiny, he's still covered in beautiful violet feathers. His beak is long and hooked, capable of stabbing and gutting opponents with ease; atop his head is a horn-like crest, called a casque, made of keratin, protecting the skull from damage. While most of his features are very striking, none is more so than his three-toed feet. Each toe has sharp claws, but the middle one sports a larger one, like a 5 inch-long dagger, that comes in particular handy for kicking opponents. If all of this wasn't enough, Akushitsuna's personality is one of aggression and masculinity; he takes orders from his summoner and no one else. This regal avian has no equipment. Keri Tatsumaki (Tornado Kick) Type: Taijutsu / Offensive. Cost: Low. Description: A surge of chakra is sent through the muscles of Akushitsuna's body and, more importantly, his legs. By leaping into the air and spinning at just the right moment, he can perform a powerful kick at high speeds that is said to look like a tornado. The kick itself is enough to break bone because of his size, but his dagger-like claw has the added a effect of gutting whatever it touches. Sage Name: Fenghuang. Classification: Sage. Rank: S. Chakra Consumption: Massive. Statistics: Offense (4). Defense (3). Speed (3); Massive x3. Description: Known as the Queen of the Birds and a goddess of the sky, Fenghuang is a massive, almost mythological-looking avian. Her feathers move in gradient from light brown to a sumptuous chocolate. Her body is 15 meters long, not including her tail, which adds another 20 meters to her total length. With a 30 meter wingspan, a giant beak and deadly claws, she's more like a sentient airplane that wants nothing more than to tear apart her foes. She's capable of fighting small prey when necessary, but it is against larger opponents that Fenghuang truly shines. She cares only for her family and her summoners; for everyone else, there is not even a shred of remorse in her cold ruby eyes. Regal Saddle Rank: B Limit: - Description: Amazingly, the Queen of the Birds is quite docile and loving, almost motherly, toward the summoners she has hand-chosen to contract with her. Because she is so determined to aid in their endevours, a special saddle was crafted to fit her enormous body; it is made of the finest rubies and light-weight metal that money could buy. The saddle can comfortably fit up to five people at a time and allows them to be secured on her back. Otherwise, they are liable to fall off during aerial maneuvers. Regal Leg Guards Rank: A Limit: - Description: While head-to-head combat is not her forte, Fenghuang knows that protecting some of her more vulnerable parts is necessary. These light-weight, golden guards hide her legs from various attacks. They were crafted to match her other accessories, and so are also set with large, spherical rubies. Regal Head Guard Rank: A Limit: - Description: A giant ruby is set into the face of this bird-sized forhead protector, allowing it to match the rest of Fenghuang's equipment. It serves to guard her vulnerable cranium from on-coming attacks while also looking stylish. Tamashii Saiken (Soul Bond) Type: Passive Cost: - Description: Fenghuang cares deeply for the summoners she has contracted with, so much so that they are considered part of the Gousha no Chourui family. When the contract is signed, the souls are bonded; because of this, she is able to communicate telepathically with her summoner at will. While she is capable of human speech like other summon creatures, these quiet interactions provide a chance for hidden tactical movements. Kazoku wa Mure (Family Flock) Type: Supplementary Cost: x2 High, Mid (upkeep) Description: Fenghuang's ability to manipulate lightning, thunder, and wind is well-known, but a secret of the family is that she can extend these powers to her summoner, too. If the summoner possesses the ability to use Fuuton or Raiton jutsu, the offensive and defensive power of those techniques is elevated by 1 rank. If the summoner cannot use one or both of those elements, they gain access to them. However, the summoner must train techniques normally to be able to use them when granted these releases. Kazoku wa Mure's effects last only so long as the summoner is within 100 meters of Fenghuang. Kuuki Rikigaku No (Aerodynamic) Type: Supplementary Cost: High, Mid x2 (upkeep) Description: By focusing Fuuton chakra beneath and around her feathers, Fenghuang enables herself to move even faster and more fluidly in the air. So long as she is flying or using her wings (not walking on the earth), this technique increases her movement speed by 2 statistical points. Inazuma no Oura (Lightning Aura) Type: Ninjutsu / Offensive. Cost: Mid, Mid (upkeep) Description: The goddess of the sky is well-versed in all things related to her domain. As such, she has the ability to channel a chakra-fueled aura of pure lightning energy (manifested as a semi-transparent, slightly yellow glow) around her entire body. While this does nothing innately, it adds a 'B' rank of Raiton damage to any physical attack enacted on an opponent. Likewise, anything that attempts to touch her, friend or foe alike, will suffer an equally powerful shock. Kaze Touei (Wind Projection) Type: Ninjutsu / Offensive Cost: High x2, High (per extra tornado), Mid (upkeep) Description: The wind is Fenghuang's best friend; the sky is her playground and Fuuton chakra bends to her will with ease. By concentrating her massive supply, she can change the air pressure in certain spots, thereby manifesting a 4 meter tall tornado. While this tornado is relatively small in size, it spins much faster than its natural counterpart; the wind is like blades, and it can shred even the strongest steel that it makes contact with. Fenghuang can manifest them so long as their upkeep is maintained and is capable of controlling their movement with her thoughts. deltra of gangnam style [googlefont=Montserrat]

Prelude -
When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?
