When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?

Xio glanced at the new mission for the day, realizing he had been assigned to what he considered a menial task. 'I guess they really stuck me with shit duty,'he thought to himself, suspecting that Fuma had deliberately kept him busy to prevent him from dwelling too much. Letting out a sigh, Xio entered the burger shop he had been assigned to assist at—an unusual assignment for a ninja of his background, but given the circumstances, it made sense. As he stepped inside, a waitress greeted him with a nod, gesturing for him to follow her to the back.
Walking through the bustling burger joint, Xio observed the cozy environment, reminiscent of the communal dining halls back at the compound. The mouthwatering aroma of food filled the air, and the patrons appeared content and at ease. After a short walk, they reached the staff area— the kitchen.
"Welcome, Xio. Thank you for joining us today. We didn't expect Fuma-san to send you, of all people, to flip burgers,"
The waitress remarked, leading him to the head chef who was diligently working on a large grill, frying an impressive array of twenty burgers at once. The chef, a burly man dressed in the standard cook's attire, was visibly perspiring from his laborious efforts.
"Alright, Xio, you'll be assisting our head cook, Ralph. Your job is to grab the burgers off the grill and prepare them according to the orders. This section next to the stove is your area. Just make sure not to get in Ralph's way; he has his process and hates interruptions. Grab your spatula and wait for the orders to appear on the screen above your station,"
The waitress explained Xio's role before giving him a friendly smile and departing. Shaking his head in disbelief, Xio took hold of his spatula. The head cook, Ralph, noticed his presence and didn't mince words.
"Alright, boy, don't mess up my burgers. No well-done requests. Nothing comes off my grill well done!" he declared firmly, slapping another row of burgers onto the grill before grabbing his seasonings and resuming his work
With the cooking utensil firmly in his grasp, Xio embraced his role as an assistant cook, working alongside Ralph. As the orders continued to come in, he approached each one with the same level of skill and dedication. The first order flashed on the screen:
"One double burger with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions." Xio absorbed the details, mentally preparing himself for the task at hand.
Effortlessly wielding the spatula, he gracefully lifted a perfectly cooked burger off the sizzling grill. Drawing from the culinary wisdom imparted by his mother, Xio meticulously orchestrated the assembly process. First, he delicately positioned the top side of the bun, ensuring it nestled upon a blanket of melted cheese. Every choice mattered, as he aimed to create a symphony of flavors. Next, he artfully nestled the burger patty atop the cheese, uniting textures and tastes in a harmonious blend.
With unwavering precision, Xio then adorned the burger with a medley of ingredients. The crisp lettuce, vibrant tomatoes, and finely sliced onions each found their designated place, enhancing the visual appeal and taste of the final creation. Every step was executed with finesse and attention to detail, showcasing the genin's culinary expertise.
Time seemed to blur as Xio repeated this process for several hours, diligently working side by side with Ralph. As the orders gradually dwindled, the seasoned cook made a decision.
"Looks like you made it through the day, Xio. We only have a couple more orders left, and I've already cooked enough burgers. I'll help you out now, So why does the Raikage have one of her most known genin in the kitchens cooking" Ralph declared, moving from behind the grill to join Xio at his workstation.
Curiosity piqued, Ralph voiced his thoughts, questioning the unusual assignment of a well-known genin like Xio to the kitchen. Taking a moment to collect his thoughts, Xio exhaled heavily while continuing his burger preparations.
"Well, from what I gather, it's about fostering a sense of camaraderie and appreciating the value of every individual in the village. They want me to understand that everyone has their role, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant as if I'm sort of asshole,"
Xio explained, alluding to the hidden reasons behind his assignment. He completed one burger and then seamlessly transitioned to the next, grabbing another bun as he contemplated his situation. Ralph chuckled, a warm and knowing expression on his face.
"You know, Xio, sometimes it's best to seek the truth directly from the source. If you haven't asked the Raikage herself, you can't be certain of her intentions."
Ralph finished preparing his own burger, setting it aside with the completed orders. Xio glanced at the seasoned cook, his words resonating within him. 'Perhaps you're right,' he thought, silently acknowledging the wisdom in Ralph's advice. Without further hesitation, he returned his focus to his task, continuing to work with dedication and a newfound sense of curiosity.
As the day gradually neared its end, Xio and Ralph efficiently tackled the remaining orders, working in tandem to swiftly prepare and serve each one. With their combined efforts, the tasks were completed in no time, leaving only the aftermath to be dealt with.
Taking charge of the post-meal cleanup, Xio began by gathering all the cooking utensils and equipment, rounding them up and placing them in the large kitchen sink. With purposeful movements, he skillfully washed and rinsed each item, ensuring their cleanliness and readiness for future use.
Once the dishes were sparkling clean and neatly organized, Xio shifted his attention to the counter area. Armed with a clean cloth and a spritz of sanitizing solution, he meticulously wiped down every surface, removing any traces of food or spills. The stainless steel grill, once the epicenter of sizzling burgers, received his undivided attention, as he polished it to a glistening shine.
With the counters spotless and the grill gleaming, Xio turned his focus to the floor. He grabbed a sturdy broom and diligently swept away any remnants of the day's activities. Carefully maneuvering around tables and equipment, he ensured that every nook and cranny was free from debris.
Satisfied with the cleanliness of the kitchen, Xio traded his broom for a mop. Methodically, he moved across the floor, dipping the mop into a bucket of soapy water and gliding it effortlessly, leaving behind a freshly cleaned and gleaming surface. His attention to detail extended to even the tiniest corners, as he diligently scrubbed away any stubborn stains.
As the last stroke of the mop signaled the completion of his cleaning duties, Xio took a step back to admire the transformed kitchen. From the sparkling utensils to the pristine counters and the impeccably clean floor, the once bustling space now emanated an air of serenity and order.
With a contented smile, Xio and Ralph exchanged a nod, acknowledging the successful culmination of their shared efforts. It was a testament to their work ethic and the importance they placed on even the most mundane tasks.
As they prepared to leave the kitchen, Xio felt a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. He had not only fulfilled his assigned role but had also discovered the significance of teamwork, discipline, and attention to detail. With a newfound appreciation for the efforts that went into maintaining a well-functioning establishment, Xio took this valuable experience with him, ready to face whatever challenges awaited him in his future endeavors.
As the Genin fished up with his day the same waitress who showed him to the back appeared again.
“Thank you Xio for all your help today, the customer were thrilled to hear about you preparing their burgers it felt like an honor.” She would say with a hint of playfulness in her voice.
Xio would nod before making his way out of the burger joint, it was time to head back to the compound.
