When the comforts of civilization begin to dull our senses, we must never forget that in the beginning, there was war. And war. And more war. Long before there were empires, there were humans consumed with greed and the hunger for power. Resources, territories, information—these were the forms of sustenance upon which we preyed. Today, we call such habits vices. Oh, how arrogant we have become! Are we not still impelled by those primordial emotions? Is the advent of war so far-fetched? But alas, for you to truly understand, we must dive deeper into this land’s half-forgotten past.
There was a time when might was the only law that humankind knew. Fearsome clans roamed throughout the land, seeking amenable grounds within which they could take root and opposing forces against whom they could test their mettle. Given the irregularity of nature’s bounty, certain regions appealed more than others, and dominion over such coveted territories became the spark that ignited the earliest inter-clan wars. These fierce, internecine affairs tended to conclude only when one side had decimated their competition into oblivion, and many clans of story were rendered extinct during this period.
The victors of war, having claimed their territories, often made truces with surrounding locals, offering protection in exchange for access to the yields of agriculture. Over time, certain communities emerged as more dominant than others, either due to numbers or sheer talent, and their rapid expansion would force smaller, neighboring communities to either collapse into their fold or be devastated. When the dust settled, humankind found itself divided into the five major territories that we are familiar with today. And was the bloodshed over? With our lands obtained and our bellies filled, were we finally content?

Awakening from her deep slumber, Kurome found herself in the northernmost Land of Fire nestled on the ground between a couple of trees. The chirping of the birds, incredibly delightful, was the second thing that she noticed. The first was the rather rude, and obtrusive, sun shining between the foliage in order to land upon the Genin. Sitting up, much too fast, she winced and sucked it at the pain that she had endured. The longer she was awake, the more the details of her botch escape filled her mind. She remembered traveling through Ta no Kuni, and being kidnapped by some odd people who were interested in her Hijutsu.
Breaking free and escaping something, or someone, had gotten in the way and caused her to lose her balance before falling and rolling down a hill. In the course of that she must've gotten to where she is now, because that was as far back as her memory would allow her to go. Yawning and stretching, she first confirmed that her favorite tiger ears were still clipped to her head, and they were, before slowly getting to her feet.
Despite this, she had no clue where she was and her whole track and plan had gone way too awry for things to be put back on track simply.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" she cried out, hoping that someone was nearby. If not, then she'd have to use whatever means she had in possession to move forward.
it was easier to move through Fire Country. Tsuchi no Kuni was sprawling spans of rocky valleys and treacherous terrain mounted into mountains. you had to spend as much time watching were stepped as spent watching your own back.
roving bandits, giant beasts, hostile ninja, savage heat.
compared to that, tonight at least, Hi no Kuni was literally a stroll through the woods. taking a moment to stop Ojo found the moon in the sky and mentally marked its placement.
it was technically morning now. the birds were starting to chirp.
still, early morning or late night wasn't a stroll to take lightly.
he wasn't exactly at his most mobile being weighed down as he was with his tools stuffed improperly into his rucksack. he had a mission in Sandyu Valley and it had taken an entire of day of travel to get there. he was supposed to have arrived on the 4th midday. it was the morning of 5th and he needed a nap.
sooner than later he was going to cross the threshold of the village blacksmith and plant-face on their worktable for a long sleep. he could do his mission after noon.
